July 4th is not celebrated here in Chile - rather Independence Day is September 18th (and will be their bicentennial this year!) So for the 4th this year, we headed to the US Embassy for their annual Flag Raising Ceremony, Pledge to Allegiance, and singing of the Star Spangled Banner. That 45minutes was our celebration for the day, very different from being in the states. So to get more in the spirit at dinner we decided to decorate the table and dining room with red, white, and blue. Fortunately Chile and the USA share the same colors, which makes it great when it comes to decorating - I was able to reuse decorations from Chile's Independence Day. So even though there were not fireworks or a cook out to celebrate the 4th I know that I can look out at the red, white, and blue, and think of the USA too.
